I'm Back to My Jaywalkers

I finished the charity knitting project I was doing, and have started working on my Jaywalkers again. I've made it past the heel turn and am working on the gusset decreases of the first sock.

I tried them on, and though they are a little tight getting them over my heel, once they are on, they fit fine. Still and all, I think next time I'll do the larger size.

Finished Rainbow Jaywalkers

Yarn: Regia Nation #5399

Not a quick knit, but a satisfying one!

quick question..

Has anyone knit their Jay Walkers on 2 circulars? I prefer that method.
Thanks

Sock Blockers

Someone asked me where I got the sock blocker that my Jaywalker is on.

Here is the one I bought on ebay.

Linked here.

However, she's got a TON of different ones, like socks, a spinning wheel, dogs, cats, canadian maple leaf - you name it... And they are VERY reasonably priced!

SSS

I'm having terrible second sock syndrome! I don't know why, I like my finished sock, I'd like to ultimately have a pair (although it's in the 90's right now, which might be why I'm not too motivated to make wool socks at the moment) -- but whenever I think about working on the second one, I start coming up with excuses or finding other things to do (the plus side is that I've otherwise been extremely productive -- I've knit 2 dishcloths and spun some alpaca yarn and cleaned the fridge... and a whole bunch of other things). Somebody tell me to work on my sock, OK?

One Jay Finished!

Here is Knitting Mama's finished first Jaywalker. I want to cast on number 2, but according to my sidebar, I've got 54 days to go until my 2 year wedding anniversary. I better get crackalacking on Jamie's Cotton socks. I am loving it! I love it! And trying it on complete - it fits better now than when it was still on the needles. So I'm happy!

Knitting Mama Gets Stuck in Traffic

Jay's out in traffic..! I don't know what's with the bumper to bumper traffic lately... but it's great knitting time!

Opal Jay Progress

After having to rip back 10 rows after turning the heel, I ripped back to the heel flap, and re-started the shaping of the heel. I don't recommend knitting after midnight. I was half asleep and I started working on shaping the heel last night. Instead of SSK, I was doing slip slip knit the next stitch, and passed the two slipped stitches over the knit stitch. Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. It's slip, slip and knit those two stitches together. Ugh. I was thinking of another project while knititng those. And I couldnt figure out why I only had 3 stitches left on one side and 6 on the other, or something like that, and then I realized I was double decreasing on one side. Anyhow, I left it for this morning, and undid the 10 rows, and restarted. When I got back to the heel flap, I realized there was a dropped stitch (thank goodness I ripped it back!) got my stitch back into the row and now everthing is good. Phew! And voila... today's work, I have a completely turned heel. I now just have to work the length of the foot, and then close it up!

Mission Complete!

I finally stitched up the toe this morning and am quite excited to have completed a new pair of socks. These may be a gift, but we'll see... I am quite fond of them! They are a bit tight in the ankle when going on (and I've read that others have encountered the same challenge), but it is definitely a project I will work on again! (A few more details will be on my blog)

Turning the Heel & Men's Jay's??

I'm turning the heel on my Jaywalkers. I like the way the purples are coming out on the heel. I've gotten a little more accomplished since this photo, but wanted to show progress. Does everyone else get the same pulling at the middle of the rows (about 3 rows to 5 rows or so) before the turning of the heel, once the heel is started? I am assuming it's from going from zigzags to straight rows for the heel??

I'm making my husband some Cotton socks for our 2 year anniversary in September. Modern 2 year anniversary gift is Cotton. So I'm thinking a pair of cotton socks would be fab. Now, how do I modify the stitches to cast on for a size 10 men's foot? I'm not new to sock knitting, but I'm not good at sizing... anyone have any advice? I was thinking about making him Jay's with cotton sock yarn....!

Traffic Knitting. With Caution!

On my way home from my parents house, there was crazy traffic. What's one to do in traffic while her son sleeps in the backseat?? KNIT! So I pulled out my Jaywalkers, and got about 4 rows done in traffic. It was bumper to bumper. I only knit while the car was stopped, of course. I'm not that crazy!

Cast on and progress

So I finally cast on since Robyn was bugging me to do so, she started this KAL so we could knit these together after all.

I cast on a week or so ago, and then last weekend I was able to make some progress on them. you still can't see the pattern, but as you all have seen from Robyn's pics it turns out nice.

I decided to do them on one long addi turbo so that I could avoid second sock syndrome.

I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow so hopefully I can make some more progress soon.

Broken DPN

Last night at my local SNB I worked on my Jaywalkers. After a few rows, something unimaginable happened. My Pony DPN 2.75mm snapped! This has never happened to me before. This morning, while out doing some errands, I went by the LYS that I got it at, and they exchanged it without question. Thank goodness they had the same size in stock! Phew! Jaywalkers back on track! Progress photo as soon as I turn the heel (I've got about an inch more to knit before that!) Stay tuned!

My first Jaywalker, almost done!

Here's a photo of my almost-completed first Jaywalker! The patterns doesn't show up as much as it does with self-striping or variegated yarn, but that's ok -- I like its subtlety.

These socks are going to be really comfortable!

Hello!

I've just started my 3rd pair of Jaywalkers. I'm using Regia Nation Color #5399 and I'm about halfway through the 1st sock.

Everybody's socks look awesome!

Introducing myself...

Hello everyone!
I don't have a picture of my 3/4th finished first Jaywalker just yet, as my camera's battery has died, but I did want to introduce myself! I started my Jaywalker in Wildfoote sock yarn in brilliant bouquet (http://www.brownsheep.com/wls.htm). The label says to use size 1 or 2 needles. The label lies. I'm using 0 needles and making the largest size and it's still a bit snug. Good thing the pattern's stretchy!
These are the first "real" socks I've ever made (I have made a pair of socks in worsted weight yarn just to understand the construction), and I'm really pleasantly surprised by how easy the pattern is to follow.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. Hopefully I'll have a finished sock and/or some photos to share soon!

Finally, a picuture from me

I am going sooooooooo slow on these Jaywalkers. I guess, since I've cast-on & frogged so many times, that a lot of my joy of doing these has gone. That's why I need all of you to help me stay motivated now. I haven't had much knitting time the past couple of weeks either. So, here they are: I decided not to do the ribbing because the ribbing was really huge. After I had started these again, I realized I could've done the first 12 rounds like the Broadripple sock pattern on Knitty. You can't tell from the picture on the Knitty website, but if I would've purled the knit rows on the first inch or so of the Jaywalkers, these would've looked really cool. Or if I would've done the picot folded/hemmed edge thingie like you can see in the second picture if you click on the link, that would've been really cool too. But I just could not even think about starting these over for the umpteenth time!! ARGH!!
So will you all please motivate me?? I need some encouragement!! :)

Daffodil Jaywalkers

Here is a picture of my jaywalkers in progress. This is my third try at the pattern and I finally got it right. I did the cast on of 84 stitches with a size 1 (2.25 mm) DPNs. The yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in the Daffodil colorway. I hope to one day make a pair with the Black Purl colorway.

Angela :)

Train Knitting

I recently took a trip from NYC to Montreal and was able to do a bit of knitting on the train. I should have completed the dreaded second sock, but Sidewinders, reading, visiting with neighbors and all the other joys of train travel interrupted the process. Unfortunately, the sun prevented me from taking any shots with the beautiful scenery in the background, but here is a progress shot nonetheless. Check out my blog for a review of a Montreal knitting shop (coming within the next day).

One Down...

One down.... one to go. After frogging this entire sock & then restarting several times, I've finally finished my 1st jaywalker. Hopefully the 2nd sock will be done soon. The jaywalker & I need a break, so I'll post again when I begin sock #2.

Modifications: I did go up a needle size since the 1st attempt resulted in a sock that would cut off the circulation on my heel.

Yarn: Lorna's Laces in Flamingo Stripe - I love it!

Progress

Though it's been slow going, I have made some progress on my Jaywalker this week.

I have a couple of charity projects that are taking precedence right now, but once they're done, these will be my top priority.

I love the new buttons, and now have one firmly ensconced on my blog.

Two KAL Buttons!

I have made a KAL button or two....

I made a photobucket account to where you can use (for this KAL). So you don't have to save it to your own account, or anything.

Here is how to post it on your sidebar:

lazypixie!

my rainbow jaywalkers will be finished in about five minutes. however, i am FAR too lazy to kitchener and weave in ends tonight, so i guess you'll all be waiting another few days for pictures. ;-)

ATTENTION!

Someone emailed me for an invite, but it got deleted in my spam by accident.

It was someone who's name started with an "A" and it was a long name... 4 names.

Email us again, I'll add you to the KAL!

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Progress on Jaywalkers

I'm moving right along on my Jaywalkers. I'm only an inch from the toe decrease. This pattern is a dream. I have never had a sock turn out this well. There will definitely be more Jaywalkers on these needles. The yarn I am using is CTH Misty Moor. Happy 4th of July to all.

new member and blogger!

Greetings all! Wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to the group; I am a new blogger and had to join your KAL to keep myself honest about finishing my first pair of Jaywalkers! Here is a photo of sock #1; #2 has been on the needles for far too long. I love the pattern, but work, life, and new projects have gotten in the way of my ability finish it. Time for the excuses to stop! I look forward to seeing all the projects on your needles.

(This is done in Cherry Tree Hill, btw. It is the first time that I have used the yarn, but certainly won't be the last!)

I have a brand new blog with many, many more posts to come. Stop by Wanderlust Knits to say hello!

Knitting Mama Progress Report

And another Jaywalkers report. I actually think I like them. The color is growing on me. Yeah, you read that correctly. But don't ever think that Purple will become my new fave color, because it won't. Ever. Anyhow, everyone told me to hang on and keep going with the Jaywalkers, and even though it wasn't the "look" I was going for, I like this. These definitely WON'T be my first pair of jaywalkers, that's for sure.

How's everyone else doing?

Angela - CAST ON YOUR JAYWALKERS (She's the reason I started this KAL - we were supposed to knit the Jay's together, with the same yarn, etc!)

ps- I'm still waiting on approval for the photo for the KAL button. If I don't hear from her in another day or so, I'll figure something else out!
My first Jaywalker...it took me forever to start one, because I had to be sure about the yarn! It's yarntini in the pureknits colorway. I screwed up a bit during the gusset decreases--I don't know how. But I had to pull back that section and reknit. The result is a bit of wonkiness, but I think it's not too visible. I tell myself that anyway...

More info and pix on my blog (http://femiknitzi.blogspot.com), with all sorts of closeups of the aforementioned wonkiness.
I'm glad that I found a bunch of other knitters starting on Jaywalkers! I thought I was the only one...

Jaywalkers Update from Knitting Mama

Here is my jaywalkers update. I am not sure I like the colorway for jaywalkers. I will give it a few more rows and decide. For some reason in "real life" they're darker thank what's photographing. After a screw up in the first 3 repeats (I slipped the two stitches seperately and not together) I realized I did something wrong, and corrected myself in the future repeats. However I didn't frog the bit I screwed up, incase I don't end up following through with this colorway and the pattern. Plus, it's not that noticeable at all, but I know it's wrong. I'm still not sure if I liek this. And yes, that's a deep purple you see in the socks. Can you believe it? PURPLE! Apparently the color is growing on me (I've hated this color for years, any shade of it!)

I can go jay walking now!

Here's my socks. I am so glad they are done. The cuffs are a little loose and my gauge on the second one is questionable but, I am happy for my first pair of socks.

KAL BUTTON

I made a KAL button. I'm just waiting on the photographer of the jaywalkers to okay the usage of her picture before I can post it. So stay tuned - hopefully by tomorrow we'll have a KAL button for everyone to use on their sidebar!

Cast-On, but Not Sure

I cast on my jaywalkers tonight. My very first pair. However, I'm not sure I like this yarn. I will give it a few more rows of ribbing (Aprox the 1" required) and then I will decide. If I don't like it, then I'll use this yarn to make other socks, and chose another yarn for the Jaywalkers. But I'm not sure if this yarn will show the pattern nicely. 1) Maybe it's too dark the colors? 2) Maybe the pattern of the color won't show nicely knit up as Jaywalkers? It's Opal, in Crocodile... so we'll see.

Don't Even Listen to Me!!

Ok, I was wrong!! My foot is narrow so I casted on 68 stitches. It seemed to fit until I got to the heel flap, then when I tried them on again.........NOPE way too tight. So I frogged the whole thing. Very sad........because I don't have that much knitting time & it took me 2 weeks to get this far. Also the ribbing was too loose. So I will start again & I will skip the ribbing & cast on for the smaller size. Also I am using STR lightweight & size 1 needles.
